What is balayage?
Balayage (French for “to sweep”) is a freehand highlighting technique. Instead of wrapping every strand in foil, the colourist paints lightener directly onto the surface of selected sections, heavier toward the ends, softer near the roots. That gradient is what gives balayage its natural, grown-out look and its biggest practical advantage: because there’s no hard regrowth line, you can stretch the time between appointments far longer than with traditional foil highlights.
