Consistently losing what looks like significantly more than usual, particularly if you're finding it on your pillow, on your clothes throughout the day, and in the shower, is worth noting. Patches of visible thinning or a hairline that's noticeably receding at the temples are different from diffuse shedding and worth a GP visit. There's also an important timing clue: stress-related shedding, called telogen effluvium, typically shows up six to twelve weeks after the triggering event. These are the most common underlying causes of elevated shedding and they're all treatable. Don't start supplementing iron before getting tested; excess iron has real health consequences.
