Smooth, sleek, manageable hair for months. Tames frizz, reduces blow-dry time, and brings thick or coarse hair under control, without damage.

What is a keratin smoothing treatment?

Keratin is a protein your hair is naturally made of. Over time, through heat, colour, the environment and everyday handling, that protein breaks down, leaving hair porous, frizzy and harder to manage. A keratin smoothing treatment restores it: a concentrated keratin formula is applied to your hair, then sealed in with heat. The result is a smooth, closed cuticle that reflects light, resists humidity, and makes your daily styling routine a fraction of what it was.

Unlike a chemical relaxer or a perm, a keratin treatment doesn’t break or re-form your hair’s structure. It coats and strengthens. Your natural hair pattern returns as the treatment gradually fades, typically over 3 to 5 months.

Is keratin smoothing right for you?

Keratin is the right choice if your hair is thick, coarse, frizzy or wavy-to-curly, and your goal is significantly smoother, easier-to-manage hair with reduced drying time. It relaxes your texture rather than eliminating it, and it noticeably reduces frizz and volume, not pin-straight results.

If your hair is fine, dry or damaged and you want to preserve your natural texture while restoring health and shine, you want our hair botox treatment instead. Not sure which one? Call us or book a consultation. We’ll look at your hair and tell you honestly.

What happens at your appointment

  1. Consultation and hair assessment
  2. Clarifying wash to remove product build-up
  3. Section-by-section keratin application, root to tip
  4. Processing time while the formula bonds to the hair
  5. Rinse, blow dry, and flat-iron sealing pass

The full appointment runs 2 to 3.5 hours depending on your hair’s length and density. We’ll confirm the timing when you book. And because our formula is modern and formaldehyde-free, you can wash your hair the same day. No 72-hour waiting rules.

How long does keratin smoothing last?

Results typically last 3 to 5 months, depending on your hair type, how often you wash, and your aftercare routine. The treatment fades gradually. You won’t wake up one day and find it gone. Most clients book a refresh every 4 to 5 months to maintain the result continuously.

Using sulfate-free shampoo and minimizing salt water and chlorine exposure will meaningfully extend how long it lasts.

Your stylists

Backstage’s senior stylist team, Hanah, Neelofar, Megumi, Sohaila and Sherry, has been transforming Oakville hair since 2012. Every treatment starts with a real conversation about your hair’s history: colour, chemical treatments and damage, so we can choose the right formula and protect the integrity of your hair.

Keratin treatment cost in Oakville

Keratin smoothing at Backstage starts from $350, depending on hair length and density, confirmed at your consultation before we begin. No surprises.

Keratin aftercare: making it last

  • Wash whenever you like, starting the same day. Just use sulfate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo and conditioner
  • Switch to a sulfate-free, sodium-chloride-free shampoo and conditioner
  • Wash 2 to 3 times per week where possible, since frequent washing shortens results
  • Always heat-protect before hot tools
  • Rinse hair after the pool or ocean, since chlorine and salt water accelerate fading

Keratin treatment FAQs

What exactly is a keratin treatment?
A keratin smoothing treatment applies a protein-based formula to your hair that’s sealed in with heat. It fills the hair cuticle, eliminates frizz, adds shine, and makes styling dramatically easier. Results last 3 to 5 months.
Will it permanently straighten my hair?
No. It smooths and relaxes your texture, and it noticeably reduces frizz and volume, but your natural pattern comes back as it gradually fades. For permanently straight hair, you’d need a chemical relaxer, which is a different process we’d discuss separately.
What’s the difference between keratin and hair botox?
Keratin smooths and relaxes texture. Hair botox repairs and conditions while keeping your curl or wave intact. If you want frizz control and sleeker hair, keratin. If you want stronger, shinier hair with your natural texture preserved, hair botox.
Is this the same as a Brazilian Blowout?
Brazilian Blowout is a specific brand, which we don’t carry. Our keratin smoothing is the same category of treatment: professional, salon-grade smoothing that targets frizz.
Is the formula formaldehyde-free?
We use formaldehyde-free keratin formulas. If you have specific sensitivities or want to see the ingredient list before your appointment, just ask, and we’re happy to share it.
Is it safe for colour-treated hair?
Yes, with the right sequencing. We’ll discuss your colour history at consultation and plan the timing so neither treatment is compromised.
Can I colour my hair before or after keratin?
Yes. We recommend colouring first, then doing keratin. The treatment will seal and enhance colour at the same time. Leave at least a week between colour and keratin. We’ll plan this with you at consultation.
How long is the appointment?
2 to 3.5 hours, depending on your hair’s length and density. We’ll confirm the exact timing when you book.
Can I wash my hair right after?
Yes. Our formaldehyde-free formula has no waiting period. Wash the same day if you want, with sulfate-free shampoo.
Is keratin safe for bleached or highlighted hair?
Yes, though we’ll assess condition at your consultation. Very compromised or over-processed hair may need a conditioning treatment first to build strength before keratin. We’ll be honest about what your hair needs.
Can I get keratin treatment while pregnant?
We recommend checking with your doctor first. We use formaldehyde-free formulas, but as with any salon chemical service during pregnancy, medical guidance is always the right first step. We’re happy to share our full ingredient list.
Does keratin work on men’s hair?
Yes. Thick, frizzy, or unruly hair responds well to keratin regardless of cut or style.
How much does keratin treatment cost in Oakville?
From $350 at Backstage, confirmed at your consultation based on your hair’s length and density.
